  • Looking for a large wire compost bin that isn't going to fall apart after a season or two? This incredibly sturdy bin is made from the same material as lobster traps -- PVC coated 12 gauge steel.

Lobster traps sit at the bottom of the ocean in corrosive salt water. So imagine how long a wire compost bin made of these same materials will last! Hint: It's so long that the manufacturer offers a 22 year limited warranty.

This compost bin has an enormous 30 cubic foot capacity, which is the equivalent of approximately 225 gallons.

Lifetime Enclosable Wire Compost Bin features:

Constructed of the same 12 gauge mesh as the bin, this composter bin includes the hinged lid which helps to retain compost in windy conditions and keeps squirrels, racoons or pets from getting into the compost. The two lid sections open fully to allow unobstructed access to the pile when desired. Closed, the sections may be easily secured together and/or to the bin itself.

Not the composter you’re looking for? Take a look at our full selection of standard compost bins.

The beauty of this compost bin is that you can keep your compost naturally moist when it rains, and well aerated because of the open design.

The wire welding process begins with steel core wire which meets or exceeds ASTM A90 standards. Rigid quality control process includes spot-checking welded wire using an oscilloscope which reveals a "perfect weld profile."

    PVC Coating

The galvanized, welded wire mesh is chemically cleaned and a specially engineered primer is applied to the prepared surface. The cleaned and primed mesh is powder coated with our exclusive formulation of PVC powder coating which is fuse bonded to the core wire. This process prevents the infiltration and resulting migration of moisture between the core wire and the PVC coating to extend the useful life span of wire an estimated 5-10 times over class III zinc galvanizing alone.

What should I put in my compost bin?

Try experimenting with a variety of ingredients such as grass clippings, leaves, and vegetable scraps. If you include some moist ingredients, that should provide all the water your compost bin needs. If you live in a very dry area, you can help retain moisture with adding coir to the compost mix. By using the right mix of dry and wet ingredients, you can accelerate the process of turning trimmings and kitchen scraps into healthy soil.

This compost bin is not especially sturdy or well made but seems likely to be functional. It is fairly large which is good if you produce a considerable amount of compostable materials. The coating is missing from the wire in many places. You could probably make a comparable bin from found materials or from hardware cloth and 4 fence posts bought at a home supply house, and save a lot of bucks. The order was lost, but shipped once I called about it. There was an apology but no explanation.
