This versatile nylon reusable shopping bag is perfect for carrying groceries or taking along as a trash bag on camping trips.

One order contains 4 bags. Each bag collapses into a tiny pouch that you can put on your keychain or in your purse and it unfolds to hold 20 pounds of whatever you need to carry. We stuffed a variety of things into the bag to show how much it carries (sorry, none of the items in the gallery come with these bags).

Keep at least one in your car, one in your desk at the office, and anyplace else you can think of so that you always have a reusable bag handy and don't have to get a plastic bag!

What's wrong with plastic bags?

The average American uses more than 300 plastic shopping bags per year. The plastic in those bags is made from irreplaceable fossil fuels and very few of the bags are ever recycled. If everyone in the United States tied their annual consumption of plastic bags together in a giant chain, the chain would reach around the Earth not once, but 760 times!

Plastic bags don’t decompose, even when exposed to air and active bacteria. Plastic bags may break down over thousands of years, but that figure is just a guess since plastic bags have only been in use for about 60 years. In fact, many modern landfills are airtight and even newspapers that were thrown away fifty years ago are still perfectly preserved!

When exposed to sunlight for extended periods of time, plastic bags will photo-degrade. In this situation, the plastic become brittle and breaks into small toxic bits that contaminate soil and waterways. These tiny shards of plastic are often mistaken for food by hungry birds and fish, and they kill countless animals every year.

What's wrong with paper bags?

According to the American Forest and Paper Association, in 1999 the U.S. alone used 10 billion paper grocery bags, requiring 14 million trees to be cut down. They also take up a lot more room and are heavier than plastic bags, so it costs money to store and transport them when you use as many as a typical grocery store.
