This extra long hoe makes short work of weeds and the durable handle is made from sustainably harvested bamboo and recycled hardwood laminate with a single-piece steel cutting head.

The extended length handle reduces back strain and multiplies work due to leverage, while the metal head is double edged to reduce wasted effort. Unlike flat headed hoes, this stirrup style cutting blade scoops underneath the surface for digging up roots. It is made from 1/8 inch steel and can be sharpened over and over again with a common file.

The Eco Hoe is both lighter AND stronger than other hoes. The combination of materials in the handle combines the best features of insect resistance, flexibility, and strength found in bamboo and hardwoods.

Why is the handle made from bamboo and recycled hardwood?
In short, hardwood forests are threatened by development and deserve protection. Bamboo is an environmentally friendly lumber - using it instead of oak, teak, cedar, redwood, or other traditional woods helps preserve forests and habitat for many different species. Bamboo requires no fertilizer and minimal irrigation, is readily available, and it grows very rapidly (in 3-7 years, compared to 60-120 years for hardwoods). Some species of bamboo grow up to 4 feet in 24 hours!

When the bamboo stalk is harvested, the roots are left intact to prevent erosion. Cultivated bamboo grows back thicker and stronger than before, resulting in healthier bamboo than in the wild. Bamboo is extremely effective at locking up carbon since it grows quickly and bamboo products last for a long time.

When bamboo laminate is paired with recycled hardwood, the resulting lumber has all of the benefits of each type of wood with far less environmental impact than virgin wood alone. Choose this type of lumber for a positive impact and superior performance!
