This is our larger version of the small portable chicken coop, and can house 5 medium egg layers or 7 Bantams, a smaller breed of chickens. It is designed after the classic British chicken ark, or sometimes called a chicken tractor. The upper tier to the coop houses the chickens, giving them a place to roost and nest. The run below is protected by the upper tier and protects the ground below from harsh weather conditions.

A movable chicken coop is the perfect addition to the backyard for any gardener. The benefit of a portable chicken coop is the ability to move the chicken coop around your yard or garden area, fertilizing with chicken poop as you go. Chicken poop is an amazing, nitrogen rich, organic fertilizer.

When it's time to move the chicken coop to a new location, simply grab it by the carrying handles and go. It's a good idea to prepare the soil for a garden bed where a chicken coop has been sitting. This will be nutrient rich soil.

It's a great idea to let your chickens free range for variety in diet and to give them access to clean areas of ground. But, chickens don't need to free range in the garden. Chickens will naturally roost at dark. The upper tier has 18 square feet of well ventilated space for roosting and nesting. Instinct will take over for chickens. There is little training of backyard chickens. They can even make friendly pets. This hen house has a ladder that can be raised for extra security of chicken predators like skunks and foxes.

On average, expect your chickens to lay an egg a day. An easily accessible nesting box is a must have for chicken coops, and this one has an external egg collection door.

This is a long lasting, consciously made, and high quality, handcrafted chicken coop. It's made from a renewable source of Douglas Fir timber that is plantation grown, and repels insects, like lice, because of the scent of the wood. Coop is stained with a weather resistant, low VOC paint.
