  • This indoor kitchen compost pail allows you to produce compost directly in the pail, and it is a perfect waste recycling system for apartments, small homes, and condos. There's no need for a separate compost bucket and composter - this unit fills both of those roles at the same time.

Bokashi composting uses a completely different method than outdoor composting -- it turns food scraps into fertilizer using fermentation.

Looking for an outdoor composter instead? Check out the Spin Bin compost tumbler.

This air-tight system provides the ideal conditions to activate anaerobic fermentation, which accelerates the composting process while eliminating odors. The Kitchen Composter has two unique features, a strainer and a spigot that allow moisture released from food waste to be drained out to prevent spoilage. This liquid can be used as a fertilizer or to clean your kitchen and bathroom drains.

This system pickles food waste very quickly - it works in less than half the time of conventional composting methods. Unlike other composters, there are no unpleasant odors, which also means there are no problems with flies, rodents, or curious pets.

The dimensions of this kitchen compost pail are 16" tall x 10" wide x 10" deep. It can be placed under the kitchen sink or other convenient location and is perfect for any size household.

Includes a 2.25 lb bag of Bokashi, an all-purpose beneficial microbial inoculant. Bokashi is a Japanese word that means "fermented organic matter." It can also be used as a soil amendment to increase the nutrient level and microbial diversity of the soil. The included bag is enough for 2 to 5 full containers of compost.

    Indoor Kitchen Composter Details:
  • Includes Bokashi
  • Measurements: 16 inches tall x 10 inches wide x 10 inches deep
  • Spigot included for easy draining
  • Holds approximately 5 gallons
  • Air tight lid seals in and odors

How to use the Bokashi mix:
Your composter includes a bag of bran, molasses, and concentrated anaerobes called Bokashi. This blend should be added to your compost just like adding yeast to bread. It introduces a balanced amount of helpful bacteria and the food they need to digest tough scraps.

Before putting any compost in your Indoor Kitchen Composter, start by laying down a layer of Happy Farmer Bokashi. Then, when you add fresh food waste in the Kitchen Composter it's important to add additional Bokashi on top of every layer of scraps.

Includes a 2.25 pound bag of Bokashi!

Be sure to close the lid tightly after every use to ensure an anaerobic environment. Once the container is filled to capacity, let the waste continue to ferment for two weeks and then transfer into your garden or planter.

When the fermentation process is complete, there will be very little visible change to the compost. Most of the bacterial action will take place from the inside out. Even though your scraps may look unaffected, they will quickly break down into nutrients when mixed with soil. Allow at least two more weeks for the fermentation process to continue in the soil before planting your favorite veggies, flowers, trees, etc.

Make sure to drain the liquid released during the anaerobic process from the Indoor Anaerobic Kitchen Composter frequently to prevent putrefaction of your compost. This Compost Tea is perfect for watering houseplants of pouring down the kitchen sink. The liquid contains millions of active bacteria - compost tea acts like a fertilizer by promoting nutrient cycling in soil, and the hungry bacteria will naturally reduce clogs by dissolving organic material before it accumulates in your house pipes.

I am disappointed on two counts. One the cost of the "bokashi" which makes composting rather expensive as the food has to be coated with it and also that I have to dig a trench and bury the pickled compost for another two weeks. It is more expensive and more work than I expected. I feel the description on the website did not explain it clearly. I wish I had not bought it. I feel composting the old fashion way may be slower but is less expensive and easier.
