Even a short period without water can kill houseplants, or at the very least set back months of growth. If you have extended workdays or take a vacation, that can wreak havoc on the health of your plants. Rather than pay someone to take care of your flowers or invest in an expensive automated watering system, you might want to try a simple, low tech solution.

This time-release houseplant watering bottle slowly drips water into your houseplant to keep it green and beautiful for 2 to 4 weeks, or even longer! It has three separate pieces - a green plastic bottle that holds the water, a cap spike which supports the bottle and delivers water directly to the plants roots, and a small replaceable disc, called a Flo-disk. The Flo-disc is multi-layered and designed to filter impurities from the water while slowly releasing moisture into the pot.

The flow discs are a consumable part, which makes this filter superior to other models. All tap waters, regardless of quality, contain varying amounts of solid sediment and dissolved minerals. These impurities will inevitably clog all houseplant watering devices. If the watering device does not have an inexpensive replaceable element such as a Flo-disk, it becomes, sooner or later (and usually sooner) an expensive piece of trash. Similar devices include ceramic cones, capillary tubing, wicks, and porous media -- all of which can clog over time.

The Plantastic Flo-disk, on the other hand, is inexpensive, easily replaced, and requires no cleaning. You can add flodiscs to your order in groups of 3. This system lasts for years and will keep your houseplants healthy in all seasons. It works great when you travel away from home or even if you're just forgetful about watering. The Flo-Disk must be installed in the spike, with the brown gasket material facing up (in the direction of the bottle). Each disc is about the size of a quarter and releases approximately 1.5 ounces of water per day.

Depending on your local water supply, the life expectancy of these filters varies. They are usually good for 3 to 5 weeks, and that can be prolonged by using filtered water. The flo disks should be replaced when water no longer flows through them.
