The inspiration for the plan came from a growing awareness that new houses were getting bigger and bigger but with little redeeming design merit. The problem is that comfort has almost nothing to do with how big a space is. It is attained, rather, by tailoring our houses to fit the way we really live, and to the scale and proportions of our human form.

The Environmental House Plan idea was a collaboration between Clean Air Gardening and Virtual Architect. Lars Hundley of Clean Air Gardening wanted to design an entire environmentally friendly home to take energy savings and sustainability to a whole new level. Bryan Welty of Virtual Architect immediately recognized the value of such a home and went straight to work designing it.
