    The Garden Watersaver is designed to capture water from a downspout to be collected in a rain barrel . Rain water flows from the roof into the gutter downspout and gets captured in the Watersaver reservoir.

    When the reservoir fills, the water then takes the path of least resistance, which is the unit's lower exit spout that leads, via a hose, to the rain barrel. When the rain barrel is full, back pressure occurs and the water then exits out of the upper exit spout into the normal drainage system.

    This is a much more sophisticated and elegant solution to capturing rain water than the typical flexible downspout redirector.

    When your rain barrel fills up, the extra water runs through your downspout again instead of through an overflow hose on your rain barrel!

    Specifications:
    Fits standard downspout. Choose either 2" x 3" or 3" x 4" configuration. 2x3 is the standard size, but the 3x4 size is common in homes built or remodeled after 2000. Please measure your downspout before placing your order.

    *Will not work with a round downspout.

    Garden Watersaver Downspout Attachment Kit Includes:

  • Water Diverter Unit
  • 7’ (2.1 m) hose tubing, long enough to give you options of where to place the rain barrel
  • Deactivating Plug, for easy deactivation when you don't need it
  • Fastening Screws, to hold your water diverter in place
  • Installation instructions, which are simple and concise

  • We recommend taping to the hose to prevent losing.
  • If you don't want to collect any more water because it is winter or some other reason, you simply plug up the downspout and it works just like a regular downspout again.


    • New models of the WaterSaver do not have mounting holes (even though the package still shows an old picture). They were re-designed for screwless installation, but screws are included if you want to attach the diverter for a more secure fit. Your order may also include a spare Deactivating Plug.

    Does not include rain barrel.

    This downspout diverter is designed to work with closed (or sealed) rain barrels. It also works great with regular rain barrels that have an overflow valve or screened top, but the back pressure feature will not work. When a regular rain barrel fills up, water will go through the overflow system built in to that rain barrel.

    The diverter works OK, but there are things to look out for:

    1) It is not suitable for downspouts that get high water flow. In heavy rain its little internal nozzle is inadequate and water comes gushing out of the top.
    2) It is quite noisy (rainwater splashing in to the reservoir) so perhaps not good for a downspout near a bedroom window.
    3) No hardware is provided for attaching the white tube to a sealed barrel. That attachment needs to be watertight and able to sustain the pressure of water backing up from a full barrel.

    Its reservoir overflows in to the downspout, so when the barrel is full remaining water goes down the downspout as before. But this happens through

    I own two of these devices. They work OK, but the previous reviewer is correct when they say that they get backed up during high water flow. I sealed mine with expanding foam and that helped, but it still gets backed up pretty bad during downpours. Also, both of mine broke apart during the aftermath of this year’s snow storms. The thawing/refreezing process over several days did them in. Both need to be replaced since they’ve basically exploded.

    I love this thing. Works perfectly. No overflow when the barrel is full. Simply diverts back to the main downspout as intended by design. Couldn’t have been easier for me, usually an amateur at do-it-yourself, to put this together. My garden is phenominal because of all the FREE water I have been collecting easily with this device. My only regret is that my rainbarrel is on 55 gallons!
