| | These beautiful greeting cards are printed on a unique kind of paper known as “amate” paper. Amate paper is made in the mountains of the Mexican state of Puebla from the bark of a kind of fig tree. To make the paper the bark is first boiled and softened with a small volcanic stone. Then, the pulp is spread out onto wooden tablets and set in the sun to dry. The process takes several days to complete a single sheet of amate paper. The images on these cards are serigraph prints based on original linocuts by artist Kent Swanson. The set includes 5 different cards with images of corn, watermelon, chile pepper, tomatoes, and melons. To celebrate the Mexican indigenous artists who produce amate paper, the names of the fruits and vegetables are listed in Spanish and Nahua (the language of the Aztecs), in addition to English.
