This item is no longer available. How much power do you save when you turn off the tv? Is it worth the hassle to unplug your stereo when it’s not in use?
With an Indoor Cost Monitor, you can
easily see how the choices you make affect your electric bill in real time. When you flick on a light switch or adjust the thermostat, the electricity monitor provides instant feedback about your current power use and projected costs. This real-time information can reinforce good habits and help you discover new ways to save.
How does it work? The electric monitor has two parts – a display unit that goes inside your house and an optical sensor that hooks up to your electric meter. The sensor is
simple to install and does not require an electrician – it simply fits inside your meter and measures the dials as they spin. Then, it sends a wireless signal to the display unit.
The signal can go through walls and travels up to 100 feet. The display unit records this information, and tells you how much power is being used (in both dollars and kilowatts). You can program the display unit for a wide range of power prices, including flat rates, tiered rates, or pricing based on time of use.
In addition to tracking your power use,
the display unit also shows the time and outside temperature. Replace a clock or thermostat with this power monitor and
get even more use from your wall space!
Why does it work?Energy use is something that happens in the background of our daily lives. Until the bill shows up, our attention is often focused on immediate concerns such as the meal we’re cooking or the TV shows we want to watch. Just as we rely on a kitchen timer to tell us when to take food out of the oven and the TV guide to tell us when our favorite shows are on, the Power Cost Monitor puts
information about electric use at our fingertips when we need it.
Informed choices are better choices. Field studies show that
the average home owner saves between 5 and 20 percent on their electric bill when real-time feedback is available.
By making information about electric immediately available, you can make rewards more tangible and reinforce your power saving decisions.
Installing the Indoor Power Meter Installation is easy and does not require a professional’s help. It takes about 20 minutes and the only tool you’ll need is a common (flathead) screwdriver.
