I bought this compost bin a few years ago because it was economical. It was difficult to shovel out the compost, the lid didn’t stay on, and mice were soon living in it. Now I’m in the market for a new one that has more staying power.

This bin is very very flimsy which makes it hard to turn the pile. The lid is constantly flying off in the slightest wind, and getting the compost out is very difficult. Since the walls of the bin are so thing this bin has actually sunk into the ground making the door impossible to open and close with out lifting the bin walls. This bin is not worth the price.

We’ve had one for 2 years and love it. No bottom means it has become a worm composter - fast and easy. The lid does blow off but an easy solution is to put a log on top. Pretty easy. We’re ordering another because of added gardens.

I’ve used the stackable square compost bins (too small to heat up well), the small tumbler type (contents became sodden & smelly) and finally this round bin. I find that the pile really heats up nicely and things break down quickly. I put a pretty 6" rock on top to keep the lid from blowing. I don’t have any problem turning the pile but I use a rowing motion, pulling contents from the side to the top. I like the fact that there is no bottom because I can just lift it off when the pile is finished. I am so satisfied with this bin that I’m ordering another one!
