This protective shopping cart cover goes over the area where your child sits in a shopping cart, and protects him or her from touching the typically filthy carts found at many stores.

When you pick out a shopping cart, there's no way to tell who used the cart last. If the previous shopper had a cold or brought their sick child with them, then those germs are likely to be all over the cart. A variety of bacteria are often found on the kid's seat of a shopping cart, including e coli, coliform, staph, and other infectious diseases. Parents should take special care before putting their child into a dirty shopping cart.

This sanitary shopping cart cover is a great way to protect your family from germs at the grocery store. It fits neatly over the child's seat and provides a soft and comfortable layer of protection. The seat cover is lightweight and easy to carry around. It also can be washed and reused over and over again.

The cotton cart cover is made from a single piece of fabric, and it can be installed with just one hand in 10 seconds or less. If you have a fussy baby in one hand, the last thing you want to deal with is tricky fasteners or clamps. Velcro strips secure the seat cover, and they can be tightened while a child sits on top.

The cotton cover has 2 built-in side pockets for storing sippy cups, car keys, pacifiers, coupons, or other loose items. There are also 2 loops for attaching toys or stuffed animals.

The sanitary cover folds down to a compact size, and comes with a handy travel tote.

What if my child is already sick?

Sick children need extra protection. If your child is sick, their immune system is at its weakest for fighting off new germs. This cloth cart cover will not only reduce exposure to new viruses and bacteria, but it will also protect other shoppers from whatever your child has.

How many germs are there, really?

"Overall, slightly more than 60, 70 percent of the carts had fecal bacteria on them, and usually hundreds of thousands of bacteria on the average shopping cart," according to microbiologist Chuck Gerba, Ph.D.

Even if you shop at clean stores and pick out clean looking shopping carts, there can be millions of unseen bacteria and viruses lurking on a shopping cart. The average shopping cart has more bacteria than a public restroom. Researchers at the University of Arizona, at Tucson found that shopping cart handles are one of the most heavily contaminated surfaces that your child can come in contact with. They found more disease causing germs on shopping carts than on refrigerator handles at the grocery store. Researchers found almost as many germs on child seats as they found on escalator handrails.

"The visually cleanest carts had some of the highest levels of bacteria that we recovered." -Andrea Fontaine, Foods Research Laboratories
